The Foundation

Yatri Supply began with a problem we couldn’t afford to ignore, halfway through a journey we didn’t want to forget.

We were trekking Mardi Himal when the rain came down. Around us, the mountains were breathtaking. Inside our packs, our cameras were vulnerable. The gear we had trusted to protect them had simply failed.

We had come to capture the mountains. Instead, we were worrying about whether our equipment would make it home.

That feeling stayed with us long after the trek.

We looked for a local maker who understood what we needed: a pack built for the places we travelled, and the equipment we carried. When we couldn’t find the answer, we started making one.

There was no big budget or endless catalogue of technical fabrics. We worked with what we could find, salvage, and stitch together. Our first makeshift backpack was less a polished product than an answer to a very personal question:

Could we build something we would trust on the next journey?

With limited materials, every decision mattered. What deserved another layer of protection? Where would a seam take the most strain? What could we leave out?

We started by learning to make the absolute most of the local resources around us. That early lesson in resourcefulness and relentless effort evolved into our standard of precision and bedrock of Yatri Supply.

Today, we work with globally sourced technical fabrics and more refined designs. Our materials have changed. The reason we make things hasn’t: we remember what it feels like to be somewhere extraordinary, distracted by the gear that was meant to help us experience it.

Some of our most vivid memories have little to do with reaching a summit. They are in the stillness of a freezing dawn, the radiating warmth of a tin mug against your palms, watching the first light catch the jagged, snow-dusted peaks. They are hidden in the hypnotic rhythm of your boots striking the dirt, that quiet, moving trance where your heartbeat syncs with the trail, and the noise of the world finally falls away. They are the sudden, cool breeze that cuts through the midday sun on a high ridge, carrying the scent of crushed pine and cold stone, filling your lungs with pure, unfiltered altitude.

Those are the moments we go back for. Not always the summit. Often something smaller, something you couldn’t have planned and almost walked past.

We want to make gear that leaves more room for those moments. Thoughtfully built, comfortable to carry, with every detail earning its place.

Our story started with what went wrong on a mountain. We keep building for everything that makes us want to return.

You bring the spirit of the journey. We’ll carry the rest.
