Yatri Gear Care Guide: Keep Your Gear Trail-Ready

Your Yatri gear is engineered to withstand the elements and accompany you on your greatest adventures. Whether it’s our rugged backpacks or our weather-resistant rain jackets, proper care will extend the life of your gear and maintain its performance. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your Yatri gear looking and performing like new.

Caring for Your Yatri Backpack

Note: To protect the structural integrity, foam padding, and internal coatings of your backpack, we highly recommend hand-washing over machine-washing.

1. Routine Maintenance

  • Empty Completely: After every trip, turn the bag upside down and shake out dirt, sand, and crumbs. Check all pockets.
  • Spot Clean: For minor stains or spills, use a damp cloth or soft sponge with a small amount of mild soap. Gently dab the area and wipe clean with a damp cloth.

2. Deep Cleaning (Hand Wash)

  • Prep: Unzip all compartments and remove the frame sheet (if applicable).
  • Wash: Fill a basin or bathtub with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, non-detergent soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash or a gentle dish soap). Submerge the backpack and use a soft-bristled brush or sponge to gently scrub dirty areas.
  • Rinse: Empty the soapy water and rinse the bag thoroughly with clean, cool water until no soap suds remain. Soap residue can attract more dirt and degrade coatings over time.

3. Drying & Storage

  • Air Dry: Hang the backpack upside down with all zippers and pockets open in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
  • Avoid Direct Sun: Do not leave the backpack in direct, harsh sunlight for extended periods while drying, as UV rays can fade and weaken nylon/polyester fabrics over time.
  • Store Properly: Once 100% dry, store the backpack in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing it tightly compressed in a stuff sack for long periods, as this can crease the internal coatings.

Caring for Your Yatri Rain Jacket

Your Yatri Supply Rain Jacket is crafted from 100% high-quality polyester and designed to keep you protected from the elements. To maintain its waterproof performance, structural integrity, and printed details, please follow these official care instructions.

1. Washing

  • Machine Wash Max 30°C, Gentle Cycle: Wash your jacket in cold or lukewarm water (maximum 30°C) on a delicate or gentle cycle.
  • Prep Before Washing: Close all zippers, Velcro straps, and snap buttons to prevent snagging the fabric during the wash.
  • Detergent: Use a mild, liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, fabric softeners, or stain removers, as they can leave residues that clog the waterproof membrane.

2. What to Avoid

  • Do Not Bleach: Bleach will break down the polyester fibers and destroy the waterproof coating.
  • Do Not Dry Clean: The chemical solvents used in dry cleaning will permanently damage the waterproof membrane.
  • Do Not Iron Directly on Prints or Waterproof Membrane: High heat will melt the polyester and ruin the technical coatings. If ironing is absolutely necessary for non-printed, non-coated areas, use the lowest possible heat setting with a pressing cloth.

3. Drying

  • Line / Hang Dry Only: After washing, gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring or twist the jacket). Hang the jacket on a wide, padded hanger in a well-ventilated, shaded area to air dry.
  • Do Not Tumble Dry: Avoid using a clothes dryer, as the heat and tumbling action can damage the waterproof membrane and internal prints.

The "Never" List: Universal Gear Rules

To protect the technical fabrics, membranes, and coatings of your Yatri gear, NEVER do the following:

  • NO Fabric Softeners: Softeners leave a residue that clogs the waterproof membrane and ruins the DWR coating on your rain jacket.
  • NO Bleach or Stain Removers: Harsh chemicals will break down the nylon/polyester fibres and strip away waterproof coatings.
  • NO Powder Detergents: Powders often leave undissolved granules that can damage technical fabrics. Stick to liquids or tech-specific washes.
  • NO Dry Cleaning: The chemical solvents used in dry cleaning will permanently destroy the waterproof membranes in your rain jacket.
  • NO High Heat / Ironing: High heat will melt nylon/polyester fabrics and destroy the elastic components and seams of your gear.
